Recently, the 57-year-old actress opened up about her mind being blown after getting to know MJ’s special request for the movie.

On top of?being the director, Ben Affleck is also portraying the role of Nike’s co-founder Phil Knight. Davis is playing the role of MJ’s mother, Deloris Jordan. Furthermore, Matt Damon plays Sonny Vaccaro, the former sports marketing executive.

Michael Jordan’s special request overwhelmed Viola Davis

Affleck, Damon, and Davis recently made an appearance on Good Morning America?and talked about a myriad of topics surrounding their film. During the show, former NFL player and co-host Michael Strahan mentioned that His Airness insisted on Davis playing the role of his mother. He asked Davis whether MJ personally asked her to play the role. Davis responded by saying, “No, Michael Jordan did not call me.”

Davis said that she was floored after finding out that MJ wanted her to play the role of his mother. She said, “But you know that makes for a great story but in reality when you hear that it freezes you. Because that’s an enormous responsibility to play someone who’s real. Someone that is tangible and I’m like, ‘I can’t mess it up.’ But I had to believe that there’s some qualities in me that reminded him of his mother.”

Davis was overwhelmed, as receiving a request from someone like MJ, who is a cultural icon, was certainly a huge thing for her.

Jordan was initially an Adidas fan as they sent him goodies and merchandise that he loved. Therefore, when there was a meeting with an executive from Nike in 1984, MJ was reluctant to attend it. Nobody was able to persuade him except his mother. It was only because of Deloris that he attended the meeting, which eventually changed his future.
