NBA superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo came from humble beginnings in Greece. His Nigerian immigrants parents could not find jobs without work permits and struggled to make ends meet. They sold accessories like watches, sunglasses, etc in the streets and Giannis and his siblings helped them sell the sundry items after school. However, their struggles as a family brought them closer than ever. Subsequently, Giannis’ rise in the NBA has been a major boost for his family. But that has not changed the power dynamics in the Antetokounmpo family at all.

The 2021 NBA champion is one of the most humble and funny NBA players at the moment. The Milwaukee Bucks superstar recently made an appearance on a live TV show where has asked about his family and his response had the fans and the host in splits.

Giannis Antetokounmpo on his mother ‘whopping his a**’

Giannis Antetokounmpo is known for his cheeky “dad jokes” during press conferences and his social media handles. Millions of fans around the world love the Greek Freak’s hilarious antics off the basketball court. His funny antics with his teammates are legendary as well and his appearances on TV shows are no different.

The two-time MVP recently made an appearance on The Daily Show with Hasan Minhaj and his antics were in full swing. In one instance the host asked Antetokounmpo about what he feels about people in America who call their mother “toxic” for petty reasons. In response, the Greek Freak gave a shy smile indicating he doesn’t want to get into all of that.

Minhaj then asked whether Giannis picks up the phone whenever his mother calls. He replied, “You have to.” Giannis then had an interesting question for the host. “You say you are 37? When was the last time your mom whooped your a**? Like, 35?”?The fans were in splits hearing this from the NBA superstar.

The comedian then added, “Well, she emotionally whooped my a** this morning. She’s like, ‘Oh you’re not going to call me before the first day at The Daily Show?'” The crowd had a field day with laughter after hearing the tough parenting styles of immigrant parents of the two.

Giannis then said that relationships are tough and talked about his childhood. He said that it was easy for him and his siblings to be close-knit because they had to sleep on the same bed. The forward added that his siblings always protect one another and that was how their parents raised them. However, he admitted that it sometimes gets “crazy”, but they are patient with each other.

Giannis asked to talk trash

There was another notably hilarious instance on the show where Hasan Minhaj asked Giannis Antetokounmpo to talk trash about superstars LeBron James, Nikola Jokic, and Kevin Durant. The seven-time NBA All-Star did not look very comfortable talking trash about these superstars. So instead, he praised them much to the agony of the host. Meanwhile, the studio audience could not stop laughing.
