The world has witnessed a lot of wonderful chemistry and connection between athletes both on and off the court. Charles Barkley and Shaquille O’Neal are two of the NBA’s most adored best friends. They can be seen roasting each other and telling stories on several occasions. Their friendship has expanded throughout their families. Incidentally, Shaq and Barkley’s mothers were also best friends.

Shaq and Barkley’s bond is quite intriguing. It all started with a feud when Barkley threw the ball at Shaq’s head during an NBA game when they both were players. But the rift between the two was quickly repaired. One of the most important reasons was the mothers of the two legends. Shaq recounted how his mother and Barkley’s mother were on the phone with him and told him to settle the fight. Shaq learned at that point that the two ladies had been friends for many years.

Unfortunately, Charles Barkley‘s mother, Charcey Glenn, died in 2015 at the age of 73 from kidney failure.

Back in 2021, in an episode of The Big Podcast With Shaq named “The Big Commando”, the special guest was NBA veteran Charles Barkley.” Shaquille O’Neal and Barkley could be seen recounting their many adventures. Meanwhile, Barkley shared a heartfelt story about his and Shaq’s mother’s bond. Barkley said, “When my mom was dying, Shaq’s mom and Miss Martha spent all their time with my mom in her last few days, this is how close they were, there were best friends for 30 years.”  

Then Barkley revealed some memories of their friendship. Charcey Glenn and Lucille O’Neal used to spend a lot of time together, playing cards, laughing and joking. The two ladies have demonstrated true sisterhood. The podcast’s co-hosts lauded the two ladies and their unbroken bond.
