Controversial WNBA star Brittney Griner has the whole world’s eyes on her now. After her arrest earlier this year, she has spent over 200 days in a Russian prison. Prior to her arrest, she was on her way to meet her teammates in UMMC Ekaterinburg.

Griner was one of the best players in the league and she spent the offseason playing in Russia. Playing for the Phoenix Mercury in the WNBA, BG was consistently among the top players.

She made a name for herself playing college-level basketball with the Baylor Bears. Despite the problems with the team officials and the University, Griner never let them affect her game.

Interestingly enough, she followed a particular pre-game meal routine when they played home games. Before a crucial game on her way to the Final Four, Griner changed her routine.

She had a meal comprising only bacon before the game. Surprisingly, her performances were enhanced and the coach was impressed. Talking about this incident in her book, ‘In My Skin: My Life On and Off the Basketball Court’, Griner talked about her conversation with the coach after the game.

Griner wrote, “That afternoon, I played really well, maybe my best game of the season, and Coach Mulkey jokingly said afterward, “Whatever you ate, keep doing it.”

In her final year with the team, Griner dominated the league and swept all major awards. Some of her accolades include AP Player of the Year, Wade Trophy, Naismith Trophy, and USBWA Player of the Year.

She left the University with 3,283 points, 1,305 rebounds, and 18 dunks. Unsurprisingly, she went into the WNBA draft as the #1 overall pick and was drafted by the Phoenix Mercury.
