One of the great things about history is that it is a memorabilia of the past. It allows people to witness scenes and episodes from a time we have not been a part of. Arguably, much of basketball history has been recorded by Michael Jordan. Over three decades ago today, an iconic play happened.

The banter between Michael Jordan and Dikembe Mutombo surprised even the latter. In a podcast?called ‘Basketball Time Machine’, Mutombo revealed how Michael Jordan made him laugh.
Mutombo recalled an iconic moment in NBA history when Jordan trolled the eight-time All-Star by shooting a free throw with his eyes closed. “I was like, ‘What is this guy doing, what the heck?'” Mutombo was referring to the 1993 game between his team, the Denver Nuggets, and the Chicago Bulls.
MJ was challenged by Dikembe Mutombo after what seemed like an open dare. He stated that Jordan was yet to dunk on him. Of course, Michael Jordan got his opportunity and rose to the occasion.

He did dunk over the 7’2″ ‘Mount Mutombo’. Jordan also gave him a taste of his own medicine, by doing the infamous finger wag. Dikembe Mutombo inspired a whole generation of players across several sports to do the finger wag.
Before making the free throw, he called out to the rookie, “Hey Mutombo! This one’s for you, baby”.
Mutombo was always amused by Michael Jordan
Mutombo seemingly took it in the right spirit. He said that Michael Jordan was “funny” and entertaining. He admitted that the games he played against Jordan compelled him to be a better player. For him, this laid the foundation for his eventually becoming an All-Star.

Dikembe Mutombo was incredibly reliable for blocking shots. But it was said that he struggled with free throws. To add insult to injury, the Bulls also won the game.?But despite the hilarious encounter, Dikembe Mutombo only has good things to say about Jordan.
Mutombo recently said, “He’s a great friend and I respect him so much“.

Like Jordan, he too also had an illustrious NBA career and was inducted into the NBA Hall of Fame in 2015.
