This year, almost every MVP prospect has injured himself in differing forms and intensities. Be it LeBron James, Stephen Curry, James Harden, or Joel Embiid, everyone but Nikola Jokic has incurred an injury. The most recent addition to this list has been Milwaukee Bucks’ Giannis Antetokounmpo.

The Greek Freak has missed the last five consecutive games for the Bucks. The timing of his injury might not concern the 33-win Bucks, but a prolonged absence can surely hit their ambitions to again top the EC for the third straight year.

How severe is the injury of Giannis Antetokounmpo?

The reigning MVP initially injured his left knee on March 20, playing against the Spurs. He did score a double-double in that win, but his not-so-clean landing to complete an assist did some damage.

As a result, he missed the following game against the Pacers only to come back for a two-game back-to-back against conference rivals Boston Celtics. Then on, before the Bucks’ game against the Blazers, he was captured showing signs of pain in the same knee. Still, he showed up and dropped a 47-point double-double to stop Damian Lillard.

The Bucks then listed the 26-YO on their injury list, calling the condition left knee soreness. Now, the team coach Mike Budenholzer has claimed that Giannis is making progress and claimed, “He did some stuff at shootaround, so I think he’s in a good place and making progress.” However, that was it from the Bucks who will not want rush his return.

This strategy seems very much in line with how teams like the Lakers and Nets have dealt with injured stars. No wonder the Bucks want Giannis to stay healthy for when they will need him the most in the coming time.

Remember the Bucks’ 140-113 blowout victory over the Pacers? Their starting five combined for 99 points in the victory and showed that they are a better pack than they ever were without Giannis Antetokounmpo.

True, they lost against the Mavs and the Warriors, but the tie against GSW remained a last-second result, which could’ve gone either way. Plus, they played without four of their regular starters against the Hornets while still managing a respectful game. These absences have given their bench a chance to face the heat, just as players like Thanasis Antetokounmpo and Jordan Nwora have gotten a chance to shine.
