After dealing with nightmares from failed first marriages, Miami Heat legend Dwyane Wade and renowned actress Gabrielle Union found solace in each other’s company. The duo got married in 2014 and have a daughter together named Kaavia James. Wade and Union also take care of the Heat legend’s three kids from his first marriage. However, back in 2021, Union shocked the world after she revealed a tricky question that her father posed to Wade during their first meeting at Thanksgiving.

Union shared that her family was worried that the three-time NBA champ would take her money. Union stated, “It happened before, there was some precedent there, otherwise known as my first marriage. Left me a little lighter.”

Meanwhile, the host Jimmy Kimmel pointed out that Wade made a lot of money himself during his time in the NBA. Union responded by stating that her ex-husband Howard was well-off too. However, she was still forced to write a hefty check when they split. The renowned actress and best-selling author reckoned that her family was quite upset about everything that panned out at the end of her first marriage.

As a result, Union’s father took a strict approach towards Dwyane Wade and ended up asking him a tricky question. Union stated, “When he first met Dwyane he was like, ‘What are your intentions? What do you want from my daughter?'”. Union also revealed a heartwarming response from Wade as he tried to win her father’s approval. Union recalled,?”[Dwyane was like,] ‘Her love?”

Luckily for Wade, Union’s family made peace with his presence in their daughter’s life eventually.
