Draymond Green has been a member of the Golden State Warriors since the 2012?2013 NBA season. The Warriors selected him as the 35th overall pick in the 2012 NBA Draft. He soon established himself as an adept and versatile player. The ‘Splash Brothers’, a formidable backcourt duo made up of Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson, first gained notoriety around the time Green moved to Golden State. Curry and Thompson transformed the sport of basketball by working together. Their extraordinary long-range shooting skills earned them the moniker ‘Splash Brothers’.

Curry’s rapid release, long-range and intense ball-handling skills, along with Thompson’s accurate shooting and off-ball movement, made the Splash Brothers nearly unstoppable. They established records for the most three-pointers made by a pair in a single season. Their shooting prowess made the Warriors an offensive powerhouse. With a versatile Green joining the roster in 2012, the trio formed the foundation of the Warriors’ dynamite roster, guiding them to three NBA titles and multiple appearances in the NBA Finals.

Undoubtedly, the trio has gotten close over the years. With his future unknown, Green recently got emotional while talking about his bond with the Splash brothers.

Green recently appeared on an episode of Podcast P with Paul George?where he talked about his tenure with the Warriors. He revealed how the trio recently realized that they shared something special. Even though they’ve been playing together and heading to championships for years, the thought of them sharing a special bond never occurred to them.

He said,

“As of late, I said over the last couple years, you really realize like ‘Yo we really have a special thing.’ Like we not fighting over attention, we’re not fighting over ‘you make more money than me’ or ‘I make more money’ we’re not fighting over none of that. Like, we really enjoy being together.”

In the same interview, Green also revealed that he keeps Klay and Curry updated about his free agency offers and how he feels about them. He does not wish to disappear from their life if he were to leave the team due to better offers. He said,

Green has been a key player for the Warriors throughout the years. The team’s success has been greatly attributed to his distinctive skill set as a dynamic defender, playmaker and leader. His opt-out contract was for $27.6 million for the upcoming season, proving his market value as a player who is in great demand in the league.

Green shared what ESPN’s Stephen A. Smith had said on his Instagram Story. He said he’d “easily be worth another $100 million” in free agency. Even though this sum initially appears astounding, it is close to the top contracts signed by other NBA All-Star players. As a result of Green’s value to the Warriors’ system and his accomplishments both on and off the court, such a figure might not be as implausible as it first appears.

Furthermore, Chris Paul was just acquired by the Warriors in exchange for Jordan Poole, giving them more financial flexibility following the 2023?24 season. Even while it wouldn’t immediately reduce the luxury tax, keeping Green around would enable the front staff to assemble a competitive squad around him, Curry and Thompson as they continue to play well into their senior years.
