The pay discrepancy between men and women has been a constant source of debate in the world of sports and beyond. Over the years, many fans have vehemently protested the unfair pay of WNBA players compared to their NBA counterparts. On the same note, WNBA star Kelsey Plum recently expressed her frustrations on the matter. Her comments attracted the attention of many, including Jasmine Jordan, the eldest daughter of Michael Jordan.


One of the biggest names in the WNBA, Kelsey Plum, recently voiced her displeasure with the WNBA’s current pay structure and advocated for a larger revenue share. Plum’s comments became the talk of the town after the weekend. Moreover, Plum also received support from a very familiar face in the NBA.

Jasmine Jordan, daughter of Michael Jordan, has played an active role in the sports industry under her father’s purview. She is one of the core members of the marketing division at the Jordan Brand. Consequently, she has a strong influence on the WNBA cause.

Following Plum’s comments, Jasmine took to social media and extended her support for the WNBA players. She reposted an infographic of Plum’s comments on her Instagram story. That’s a big shout-out, considering she has 165k followers on her account.

WNBA champion Kelsey Plum recently appeared on? The Residency Podcast. In one of the episode segments, Plum brought up the issue of WNBA salaries. She said,?“We’re not asking to get paid what the men get paid, We’re asking to get paid the same percentage of revenue shared.”?

Therefore, she clarified a ‘huge misconception’ about the wants of WNBA players. She emphasized the percentage of revenue share on salary numbers.

Incidentally, some numbers that reflect Plum’s words could provide a clearer picture. NBA players currently receive approximately 50% of shared revenue, while WNBA players receive only 20% of shared revenue.

The average NBA salary is $7.5 Million, whereas the average WNBA salary as of 2019 is $116,000.

The All-Star guard further exposed the unfair compensation structure of the league by breaking down the numerous aspects of their pay. She revealed how WNBA players don’t get a dime of jersey sales, whereas their NBA counterparts get up to 45%.

Plum then harped on the woeful state of the CBA(Collective Bargaining Agreement) in the WNBA. She attributed the increasing salaries of NBA players to the successful CBA negotiations. “In the WNBA, thats not the case,” she said.
