Jasmine Jordan was born and brought up in Chicago. She lived her “famous childhood” in a place that had endless amounts of love for her father. She loved it here, but most importantly she loved the snow that sprinkled on the city during winter. While stating this, Jasmine opened up about her upbringing and how her parents handled the fame around the family.

Michael Jordan and Juanita’s approach to parenting

Growing up, Jasmine’s parents Michael Jordan and Juanita ensured that their children had a “well-rounded” childhood. The focus was on showing and making them experience all aspects of the world. She said, “We weren’t just sheltered we were exposed so that way we wouldn’t feel different”.

This was very important for Jasmine and her brothers because it helped them fit in at school and with friends. With such fame surrounding them, her parents focused on normalizing things at home. Hence for the longest time, Jasmine wasn’t aware of her father’s influence and impact on the world. All she knew was that her father’s job was playing basketball.

She said, “I literally googled him and that’s when I started seeing like, oh this is who you are to the people vs just dad to me”. This was when she realized that her life was different but at home, she was never made to feel so. This helped her and her brothers to remain grounded and humble.

The father-daughter bond post-retirement

While Jasmine always had a close bond with her father, the duo got closer after Jordan retired from the game. In an interview with the Chicago Tribune, Jasmine stated that the father-daughter duo had to work towards building a stronger relationship. She acknowledged the sense of void His Airness had after leaving the game. However, he focused on adjusting to his new life instead of finding a replacement to fill the void.
