Millions of fans around the world consider NBA legend Michael Jordan the GOAT of the game. His athleticism coupled with his desire to win and killer instinct made him the fan favorite. He was the face of the NBA during his career and was unstoppable. Over the course of his career, MJ won 6 NBA titles with the Chicago Bulls. And it was from two different three-peats. The first three-peat was from 1991 to 1993 and the next from 1996 to 1998.

After the first three-peat, Jordan shocked the world as he announced his retirement from basketball. He would then make a comeback after spending more than a year away from the game. When he came back in 1995, the Bulls made the playoffs. However, they were beaten by the young and energetic Orlando Magic, led by their superstar Shaquille O’Neal.

During MJ’s absence in 1994, the Houston Rockets led by legend Hakeem Olajuwon won the title. Then in 1995, the Rockets successfully defended their title by sweeping the Magic in the Finals. However, the titles won by the Rockets are looked down by many because of MJ’s situation. And Olajuwon’s legacy is stained due to this belief. Recently, Vernon Maxwell, who was part of the Rockets’ title-winning squad talked about it.

Vernon Maxwell talks about Michael Jordan and the Bulls

Former NBA champion, Vernon Maxwell was in attendance for the ‘No Chill With Gilbert Arenas’ podcast. During the chat, the host asked Maxwell about people not giving enough credit for the Rockets’ back-to-back title wins in 1994 and 1995. The host asked whether the Rockets would’ve beaten the Bulls with Michael Jordan.

Maxwell said, “Hey man, we used to beat those m***erf***ers all the time man[during the regular season]. I know it’s different during the playoffs but man s**t man. I used to feel like man we had the big a** African back there man…”

Maxwell was referring to Hakeem Olajuwon. He was one of the best centers to play the game of basketball. Defenders struggled to guard him on the post. And it was over whenever he hit the iconic ‘Dream Shake’. Maxwell also said that the Rockets used to comfortably beat the MJ and the Bulls over a span of a few years.

Olajuwon won the Finals MVP award on both occasions. To add to the 2 title wins, Olajuwon also won the NBA MVP award in 1994.
