The Dallas Mavericks have had a decent season so far. Led by stars Luka Doncic and Kristaps Porzingis, the Mavs have been a powerhouse in the league in recent times. However, it was in their most recent matchup that they suffered their 21st loss of the season at the hands of the Golden State Warriors.

This means that they now sit 5th in the NBA’s Western Conference with a 27-21 record.

Although Doncic would lead the Mavericks with 23 points in the loss to the Warriors, there would come a moment in the game’s 4th quarter when his co-star – Porzingis would get ejected for kicking the ball into the crowd. Let’s see how this happened.

Porzingis kicks ball and gets ejected

It was during the 4th quarter when the Mavericks found themselves down 82-106 that the ejection would take place. During an offensive transition, Mavs’ guard Josh Green would pass the ball to Jalen Brunson in the corner. Following this, Porzingis made a cut towards the rim where Brunson would then pass the ball only for it to bounce off of Porzingis’s leg and go out of bounds.

It was right after this that Porzingis kicked the ball into the crowd out of frustration, in FIFA style. Thereafter, Porzingis would apologize to the fans for his actions while walking off the court.

As per NBA rules regarding fouls and penalties, kicking the ball into the crows by force will result in the player suffering a technical foul and an ejection from the game. In addition to this, the Mavs’ forward had a poor game, to say the least.

He would finish the game with just 9 points, which came off just 26.7% shooting. In addition to this, he would also turn the ball over thrice in the game, the third time being the play where he would be ejected.

Porzingis and the Mavs this season

Despite some recent poor performances, Porzingis, this season, has averaged nearly 20 points a game along with 8 rebounds.

Added to this, the points scored by Porzingis, along with the points generated by his assists, contributed to nearly 16% of the total points scored by the Mavericks.

Despite the 130-92 blowout loss to the Warriors, the Mavs still have the best defense in January 2022. Over the 13 games they have played in January, the Mavs have a 10-3 record with a 101.3 defensive rating.

With the hope that this defensive success will continue, if not get better, the Mavs will aim to make a deep playoff run and maybe even vie for the title. Led by both Doncic and Porzingis, the sky is the limit for the Mavericks.
