The Los Angeles Lakers facing the Sacramento Kings on any other day would be a no-brainer. Of course, the Lakers will win the game easily. However, this season has been anything but normal for the purple and gold. They had to struggle for the first half of the game until they finally gained momentum and a lead against the Kings. And unfortunately for the Kings, their rookie Davion Mitchell also got injured.
However, the odd part was that it wasn’t because of any other player, but actually a referee. That’s not something we see very often during games. Well, there’s a first for everything, right?

A lot of people criticized Monte McNair, general manager of the Sacramento Kings for picking Davion Mitchell as the ninth overall pick in the 2021 NBA Draft. Not only did they have Tyrese Haliburton, whom they drafted last offseason, but also their franchise player De’Aaron Fox as guards for the team.
However, his decision turned out to be a wise one. Mitchell has proved to be an asset on the defensive end of the floor, something the Kings had been missing for a while. In fact, he is also an offensive boost of the bench. The Kings might not be the greatest team in the West, but they have certainly had some impressive games.
Sadly, Mitchell has now come face to face with the injury hurdle that players often face and too early in his career. With a couple of minutes left in the third quarter against the Lakers, Davion tried to block a three-pointer by Russell Westbrook. And while he was stepping back, he stepped onto the referee’s feet and hurt his right leg. He fell to the floor in pain and was eventually seen heading straight to the locker room.

Los Angeles Lakers had already taken over
The Lakers were trailing most of the first two-quarters of the game. But the third quarter was a turning point, and Mitchell’s injury was just the icing on the cake for them. Anthony Davis and Russell Westbrook’s 25 points, and 23 points respectively, were more than enough to keep them going.

They didn’t even need LeBron James, who was made to rest after his abdominal injury aggravated during their previous bout. Now the question is how serious Mitchell’s injury ends up being. And how it will affect the Kings from here on out.
