The three-point contest has been an entertaining tradition in the NBA. Some of the league’s best shooters have been a feature of the competition. Players are assigned a designated period of time, within which they must try and shoot a certain number of balls from long range. In the recent past, Stephen Curry has been one of the most prolific performers in the competition. But over the years, many quality players have taken part in it. Here, we will take a look at an incident years ago, when the legendary Michael Jordan was stunned by Celtics’ Larry Bird.

Back in the day, both Jordan and Bird were masters of their craft. The Bulls legend was, and continues to be one of the best guard-forwards that the game has ever seen. Overloaded with so much natural talent, Jordan’s hard work made him even better. Very few things could actually make him go wow! Meanwhile, Larry Bird was a certified Celtics icon. In a career spanning 15 years, he transformed Boston into a devastating team. But there was one moment in particular which made even the great Jordan to stand up and take note.

Throwback to when Bird’s 3-point heroics impressed Michael Jordan

Way back in 1988 when both Jordan and Bird were on the circuit, the latter raised multiple eyebrows in a three-point shooting contest. As seen in the video, the forward was nailing the long range shots. Witnessing the masterclass as an onlooker, ‘Last Dance’ star Michael Jordan was in awe of what Bird was doing, and with good reason.

Dressed in a classic warm-up jacket, Bird nonchalantly dropped baskets in from behind the outer D. After the statement performance, Jordan was seen saying,?“He didn’t take off his top yet. I’d hate to see when he takes off his top. I tell you, it’s hard to shoot after Bird just made 23.”?In a rare sight, the sheer level of the Celtics great was enough to make even Jordan nervous. Nevertheless, both superstars went on to script greatness in the NBA.

The great Larry Bird went from here to becoming a 3-time NBA winner and a 12-time All-star. Boston Celtics will fondly reminisce his glory days for a long time. Courtesy of his services for the franchise, he rightly earned the nickname of ‘Larry Legend’!
