The NBA never ceases to surprise fans. Denver Nuggets, the number one seed in the West, just lost a game to the 14th-seeded San Antonio Spurs on Saturday. Despite another triple-double performance from Nikola Jokic, Gregg Popovich’s Spurs managed to defeat the Nuggets, 120-128. However, the game wasn’t without its drama as tempers flared mid-game, forcing the officials to step in to avoid any further scuffle.

During the third quarter of the game, an altercation took place between a couple of players. Officials and team staff were forced to step in to prevent the situation from escalating. While altercations are common in the league, this situation arose from a seemingly harmless poster dunk.

With under seven minutes left to play in the third quarter, Nuggets’ Michael Porter Jr. came down the lane and threw down a poster on Spurs’ Zach Collins. However, that wasn’t the end of it as Porter Jr. had some words for Collins while going back on defense.

Zach Collins took offense to whatever was said to him as he ran up to Porter Jr. to confront him. As Collins was bumping heads with Porter Jr., the Nuggets forward shoved him away after grabbing Collins’ neck.

And it immediately escalated as their teammates had to step in and Collins was dragged away from the scuffle. Now, it is unsure as to what Michael Porter Jr. said to Collins that aggravated him so much.

All players from both teams’ starting lineups had strong outings. However, it was the Spurs’ bench that made the difference, as they rallied back for a 42-point performance in the second quarter. Following this, San Antonio never let their foot off the pedal.

A surprising win for the Spurs but moreover an even more surprising loss for the Denver Nuggets. Let’s see if the Nuggets can get back on track as they face the Brooklyn Nets on Sunday.
