After giving way to one of the NBA’s most acrimonious beefs in recent memory, Russell Westbrook and Patrick Beverley are now teammates. This off-season, the Los Angeles Lakers acquired Beverley to bolster their squad, pairing him with ‘Brodie’ in the process. The two players arguably used to despise one other, but it seems they’ve put their spat well behind them.
The Lakers have been pushing this exact narrative throughout the off-season, as have both players, who have indicated that they are on the same page. The team is hoping that their newfound camaraderie will carry over onto the court. However, when the men in purple and gold locked horns with the Minnesota Timberwolves in a pre-season ballgame, this didn’t appear to be the case.

During a dead-ball situation, Beverley was seen huddling up the players after a made basket by the Timberwolves. Everyone was on board as the guard attempted to be a defensive leader. Westbrook, on the other hand, didn’t appear to be having any of it.
Beverley can be seen in the video calling Westbrook to the huddle. Furthermore, even Anthony Davis tried to get the former MVP on board; however, his attempt was futile. While everyone, including LeBron James, joined the Lakers’ huddle, Westbrook seemingly appeared to completely disregard Beverley’s attempt to rally the troops.

One may argue that Westbrook simply wasn’t aware of the fact that there was a huddle. However, it’s difficult not to draw certain conclusions from this given the history between the two guards.
The Lakers may be concerned about potential chemistry issues after bringing Beverley onboard
The Los Angeles Lakers made a slew of additions this off-season, hoping to bounce back from the ruins of last year. One of the players they brought on board was Patrick Beverley, a proven defensive and vocal leader. However, considering his tumultuous history with Russell Westbrook, the Lakers’ front office may have been apprehensive about any possible chemistry issues.
With Westbrook seemingly disregarding Beverley’s huddle, it definitely isn’t a good look for the Lakers. Furthermore, the franchise is hoping that its star will approach the upcoming season with a rejuvenated mindset.
Westbrook struggled to find his footing in his maiden season as a Laker last campaign. In fact, his weaknesses were often in the spotlight, and eventually, he was thrown under the bus for the team’s shortcomings by fans and media alike.

Many believe that the acquisition of Beverley will perhaps help Westbrook break out of his slump. Several individuals believe that the Lakers’ new addition will be an outspoken leader who will hold the nine-time All-Star accountable if required. However, if the Lakers want to eliminate chemistry issues, both individuals must likely talk it out amongst themselves and put an end to any friction that may exist.
