Back in 2022, the Bahamas-based crypto currency FTX, which was endorsed by Shaquille O’Neal, collapsed. After the bankruptcy, the firm’s account holders filed a class action lawsuit against the firm and its endorsers, for hyping up unregistered securities. Many celebrities who endorsed the tech platform were served the lawsuit. Shaquille O’Neal, however, has been ducking the lawsuit for many months. The plaintiff’s attorneys have time and again tried to serve Shaq in vain. Turns out, the big man dodging the big lawsuit is now a story of the past.
According to an NBC Sports report, Shaquille O’Neal was finally served the lawsuit on Tuesday. While Jimmy Butler and Co. fell against the Celtics, O’Neal received a summon and a complaint in the class action filed against him and other FTX endorsers. As the plaintiff’s attorney Adam Moskowitz puts it, the authorities had personally served Shaq with the lawsuit during Game 4. Apart from the FTX lawsuit, Shaq was also served in a new lawsuit over the Astrals Project, an NFT/crypto offering founded by him and his son Myles O’Neal.
?The allegations in the new crypto complaint are very serious and detail how him, his son, and his business partner all founded this NFT Metaverse, and he made promises every week that he would be extremely involved, so the value of the NFTs would grow greatly,? Adam Moskowitz said.
Shaquille O’Neal’s Astrals fiasco
In a new complaint on O’Neal’s venture, Astrals, it has been alleged that the NFT venture was selling unregistered securities. One of the investors in the NFT firm has claimed that O’Neal promoted Astral to expand his Crypto footprint. According to the investor, Shaq promoted the NFT firm without being aware of the consequences of selling unregistered securities.
