San Antonio Spurs legend George Gervin aka ‘The Iceman’ once revealed an interesting fact about Michael Jordan who is lauded as the greatest of all time by the fans. Gervin disclosed Jordan was unable to score more than seven points against him when they faced each other in an All-Star game. He added it was because he blocked MJ’s dominant side. The incident occurred in the 1985 All-Star game when Jordan was a rookie.

Back in late 2017, George Gervin was giving interviews for close to six hours in the NBA’s New York office for the promotion of NBA All-Star Game voting. At the time, he revealed the interesting story of Michael Jordan.

Michael Jordan is arguably the best player ever. Everyone in the NBA world knows his ability to turn around a match single-handedly. During his time, he glided past the defenders with ease. Hence, the thought of beating him doesn’t necessarily come into the mind of his opponents. However, he was still a rookie during the 1985 All-Star game when George Gervin produced a masterclass.

The former Spurs legend revealed he understood one weak point of Jordan when they were guarding each other in the game. He added Jordan couldn’t go to his left side while being dominant on his right side. So he forced MJ to go left and stopped him from scoring further. Gervin added, “Until he made that adjustment in the career, he didn’t take off.”

Even though MJ was a rookie, he took the league by storm and won the Rookie of the Year award. However, he wasn’t the finished article. Gerwin noted Jordan’s career flourished further after he fixed this weakness. According to Gervin, he reached his full potential after making the adjustment. Gervin finished off by saying Jordan probably got annoyed in that All-Star game after failing to score more than seven points.

George Gervin was one of the best at playing the game of basketball. He successfully made his name into the NBA’s 50th Anniversary All-Time Team. Gervin also made nine All-Star appearances along with winning four NBA scoring titles. The Iceman finished with an average of 25.1 points, 2.6 assists, and 5.3 rebounds in 14 years of his career.
