Chris Paul is one of the elder statesmen of the NBA. The point guard is in his 16th NBA season and still playing at the highest level. Despite being written out for his age before, CP3 has proven that the leadership and ability he brings onto the court just gets refined as time passes.

A lot of the marvel for old players dominating on the court has been reserved for LeBron James. While LeBron and CP3 are the same age, ‘Bron has played in the league for longer. Nonetheless, both men are playing at an elite level in their career twilight, and Dwyane Wade believes that CP3 is just as age-defying as LeBron is.

Paul is averaging 17.8 points and 8.1 assists on a Phoenix Suns team that seems destined for the Playoffs for the first time since Steve Nash took them there. Chris Paul and LeBron James: Is there a window on their decline?

Point guards age gracefully in the NBA because their skill-set is based around their skill of passing and shooting. However, short guards like CP3 start becoming obsolete when their speed starts declining with age. While Paul is definitely slower on the court, he slows the game down when he has the ball. Same with LeBron James.

While LeBron is playing at an MVP level, CP3’s contributions to Phoenix shouldn’t be forgotten. He has given Booker a chance to finally have a playoff run. The team is well-positioned in a deadly Western Conference. Hopefully, they can hold on to their spot and allow CP3 to have another playoff run.
