The Chicago Bulls played the Utah Jazz in the 1997-98 NBA finals. With the hunger to win their sixth NBA title, the Chicago Bulls played the first two games at Utah. Game 1 went to overtime and Utah beat the Bulls by 3 points. To clear his mind and prepare for game 2, Dennis Rodman flew to Las Vegas and had a wild night.
Dennis Rodman and his wild night
Dennis Rodman took a 60-minute flight from Salt Lake City to Las Vegas. In Vegas, he went club hopping. He sat in a red Hilton limousine and visited his favorite hangout spots with his friends. The entourage went to the Hard Rock Hotel and Club Rio before ending the night at the Hilton Hotel.
Rodman and his friends spent their time gambling and playing a fair bit of blackjack. Reports state that Rodman was throwing money around the table like he was paying off his NBA fines.
In the 24-hour madness, Rodman blew over $20,000 worth of chips and asked the Las Vegas Hilton?s pit boss for 5,000 dollars worth of chips. Rodman was in a world of his own, for he didn?t realize the presence of golf legend, Tiger Woods. His wild night ended with a flight back to Salt Lake City to play game 2 of the NBA finals.
The mid-season 48-hour trip to Vegas
During the middle of the 1997-98 season, Dennis Rodman spent 48 hours in the vibrant city of Vegas. As shown in one of the episodes in the Last Dance docuseries, Phil Jackson had given Rodman permission to make the trip. It was simply, Rodman just needed a vacation. However, Michael Jordan was against this. He said, ?I told Phil if you let him go, we not going to see him again.?
Michael Jordan was right. Rodman didn’t make it back in time. Phil Jackson and Jordan had to fly themselves down to Vegas and bring Rodman back home.
