A strong performance by Indiana Pacers All-Star Tyrese Haliburton against the Chicago Bulls on Sunday evening impressed many. Bulls guard, Patrick Beverley, who is known for getting under the skin of his opponents, was on the receiving end of a game-winning shot by Haliburton. After calling out the Pacers star for his comments over a month ago, Beverley was hoping to shut him down in this game. However, things didn’t turn out well for the former Los Angeles Lakers player.

With less than 5 seconds left on the clock, Haliburton hit a deep three over Beverley to seal the game for the Pacers. Haliburton, who finished with 29 points on 11-of-17 shooting, 6-of-9 from beyond the arc, and 11 assists, probably had extra motivation to beat Beverley and the Bulls. Immediately after his game-winning shot, he went to social media to acknowledge some of Beverley’s past comments.

The Pacers star sent a fitting reply to Beverley’s comments from over a month back. Replying to a tweet from February 3, Haliburton channeled his inner Clay Davis from the popular series ‘The Wire.’

Tyrese Haliburton kept the receipts

All this stemmed after Haliburton’s appearance on “The Old Man and the Three” podcast a few months ago. During the podcast, the current Pacers star revealed a story from his Sacramento Kings days when Beverley trash-talked the now 23-year-old. Haliburton said, “After the game, Pat Bev is barking because they won. He guarded Buddy and Buddy got 4 points. He looked at me dead in my eyes and said, ‘You?re lucky I wasn?t guarding you tonight, I?d have locked that (expletive) up.’ What?”

Beverley kept the receipt from the podcast till the two faced off last month during the Lakers’ win over the Pacers. After the game, Beverley said, “I heard Haliburton did an interview a while ago and mentioned my name.”?He continued, “I remembered his words. So I took it kind of personal and I wanted that challenge tonight.

Since it was the final meeting between the two teams for the season, many felt that Beverley got the last laugh. However, Haliburton was given a chance at revenge when Beverley joined division rivals, Chicago Bulls. And he did not hold back.

Important win for the Indiana Pacers

Other than Haliburton getting his revenge on Beverley, it was an important victory for the Pacers. Although both teams currently sit outside the Playoffs spots, there is still some hope for them. Adding to the Bulls’ woes, the Pacers sealed the season series against their divisional rivals 3-1.

Even though they won’t meet again in the regular season this year, there is still a chance for the teams to battle it out in the Playoffs. However, time is ticking and they’ll need a good run of results if they want to make the postseason. For the Pacers, a lot rests on the shoulders of the young Haliburton. He has been the leader of the team after landing in Indiana via trade last summer.
