Michael Jordan established himself as the greatest competitor in the NBA. MJ’s competitive spirit and his will to do what it takes to win separated him from the rest of the league. His Airness brought the Chicago Bulls their first championship in NBA history in 1991 and went on to win five more after that in the 1990s. Despite being close to his home state of North Carolina, Jordan never played for his state’s team in the NBA. However, Michael Jordan took over the Charlotte Bobcats in 2010 with a goal to bring an NBA championship to his home state.

Recently, the WWE Monday Night Raw was hosted in Charlotte, North Carolina when former wrestling legend John Bradshaw Layfield made a classic antihero appearance. The 55-year-old insulted the Charlotte crowd and accused them of turning the GOAT Michael Jordan into a loser.

Former WWE champ takes a shot at Michael Jordan

The Hornets have been the on of the least successful NBA franchises since it was first founded in 1988. Let alone the NBA championship, the Hornets have not won a single conference or division title either. Thus, the former WWE Smackdown champ took a dig at Jordan in front of his home crowd in a resounding manner.

Layfield said, “You even took the GOAT of GOATs, Michael Jordan, and turned him into a LOSER! You see, Charlotte North Carolina is like so much of the rest of the world, it is where dreams come to die.”

MJ has been a part of the Charlotte Hornets for over a decade. He renamed the franchise Charlotte Hornets in 2014. Thus, by targeting the Hornets’ lack of success in the NBA, Layfield took an indirect shot at Michael Jordan. The North Carolina fans would hope that the Hornets would give a fitting reply to Layfield’s comments, by showing a better performance this season

Will the Hornets have a better run this season?

The Hornets have made it to the Eastern Conference semifinals four times and lost on all occasions. During their remaining six playoffs appearances, the franchise couldn’t do better than the first round. Last season, Michael Jordan’s team had a 43-39 record, finishing tenth in the Eastern Conference table. However, they failed to make it to the playoffs despite a record over .500.

The Hornets have had an impressive start to the 2022-23 season. They have won two out of their first three games so far and are currently standing fourth in the Eastern Conference. Hopefully, Michael Jordan can inspire the Charlotte Hornets to get far during this season and possibly shock everyone by bringing a championship home.
