The Los Angeles Lakers and LeBron James have missed the playoffs again. After weeks of turmoil, the Lakers were put out of their misery as they were eliminated from playoff contention. And with the season-ending, the blame game has started.

Frank Vogel, the head coach was fired this week and now the blame seems to have shifted towards LeBron James. He was criticized for the way the roster was constructed and one of the people was Lakers legend, Magic Johnson.

Magic blamed LeBron for passing up on DeMar DeRozan and going with Russell Westbrook instead. DeRozan wanted to join the Lakers in the offseason and his agent even contacted Magic about the deal. But LeBron and the Lakers started talking with Russ and proceeded with him.

That experiment failed spectacularly as the Lakers failed to make the playoffs and Westbrook had a bad season by his standards. But another Lakers legend, Shaquille O’Neal has come to LeBron’s aid.

Shaquille O’Neal says Magic should not have commented on LeBron James

Shaq was asked about Magic’s comments on LeBron. He says that Magic should have done that. He said when he was in charge, if he wanted a certain player, he would get him and if he didn’t want a certain player, he would say no. Shaq also adds that DeRozan would not have played so well if he was with the Lakers.

Shaq adds, “If I make a decision and say I want somebody. You better bring him in or else. He said I didn’t want DeMar. He wanted Russell Westbrook. That’s something he gotta live with. I don’t think Magic should come and say haahaahaa cause it don’t matter. When Magic was in-charge, Magic did the shit the way he wanted to do, and that’s who we all got it from, him.”

At the Bulls, he was the star and leader. But at the Lakers that might not have been the case with LeBron and Anthony Davis. So even though we could speculate that things might have been different, there is no way of actually knowing it.

And Shaq came to the King’s aid amid scrutiny from Magic and others. LeBron had no way of knowing the season would have turned out like this. He went with his gut feeling at the time. He had a hell of a season, but his team was just not good enough.
