NBA legend Shaquille O’Neal recently poured his heart out in an article published by PEOPLE magazine. The Big Aristotle is not just a former NBA superstar. In addition, he is also a father and a person with a big heart. So why is Shaq so actively involved in charity events? And what is he like with his kids? O’Neal answered both questions in an exclusive interview.

Shaquille O’Neal is known to have helped out many throughout the years. The Los Angeles Lakers legend is a philanthropist and loves bringing a smile to people’s faces. Fans of the Lakers legend are well aware of the sweet stories of Shaq helping out strangers at the strangest of times. From gifting a laptop to a student to buying an engagement ring that the soon-to-be groom couldn’t afford, Shaq has actually done it all! He had also once stated that he liked to hang around in places such as furniture stores where he could help out people who were in need. Recently, the $600 million worth NBA legend provided Thanksgiving dinner to about 2000 people in Georgia. When asked about the reason behind his noble deed, O’Neal credited his parents.

“One, it’s the right thing to do. It’s what I was taught. And two, that could be me. That was my parents and me back in the day — them trying to give me things they couldn’t afford. I’ve got plenty of money now,” said Shaq.

What is Shaquille O’Neal like with his kids?

Shaquille O’Neal has been a dominant figure in the NBA world. However, the 4-time-championship winner is a whole different person altogether when it comes to his kids. During the same interview, Shaq relayed how he used to ‘tear the house up’ when he used to have a bad game. However, after he became a father, his sour mood would take a back seat whenever he went home to his kids.

“As soon as I saw my children’s faces, I could transform. You come home, and they don’t care about any of that. Forty points? It’s ‘Hey, Daddy!’ Two points? ‘Hey, Daddy!'” recalled O’Neal.

While he had to miss most parts of his kids’ life due to a bitter divorce, he has rebuilt his relationship with his kids. O’Neal stated that he is now at peace to just witness his children following their passion.
