Over the last few seasons, the Boston Celtics have emerged as one of the best teams in the Eastern Conference. However, they always fail to clinch the Eastern Conference title. Initially, it was because of LeBron James being a huge obstacle for them. However, even after his departure, the team has struggled to make it to the NBA Finals.
So far, they have had an average start to the season; they are exactly at the .500 record. In their first 6 fixtures, they have won and lost 3 games each. Needless to say, fans and analysts are concerned about the team’s fortunes because of their slow start to the season.

Following the Thursday night defeat against the Detroit Pistons, Tristan Thompson cleared some air about people already doubting the team. He said:
“I think the first 12 minutes Detroit was excited. They are playing against the Boston Celtics. We have to understand we are no longer the team that is climbing up the ranks. This team has been to the Eastern Conference finals multiple years out of four years. You are going to get a team’s best shot.”
Thompson compared Celtics’ current situation to that of the LeBron James led Cleveland Cavaliers. The Cavs practically locked in the East ever since LBJ returned to the team. Thompson was a crucial part of that roster and he believes that is nothing new for a championship caliber team.
“In Cleveland I remember there were times where, whether we were Eastern Conference champs or finalists, we got everyone’s best punch every night. Here with the Celtics it’s a similar situation. If you look at our roster we have players … myself, JT, JB, Smart; we have all played high level basketball in the playoffs.
“Rookies and young guys in Detroit look at that and are licking their chops. They want to prove they can compete with a playoff and Eastern Conference championship bound team. We just have to understand that.”

Can the Celtics get back on track soon?
There are no doubts that Boston has an incredibly talented unit. However, assembling a good team won’t be beneficial at all if they do not win some hardware. Keeping that in mind, the team will be eager to get back on the right path.
Furthermore, the competition in the Eastern Conference has vastly increased. So they should try to win as many games as possible during the first half of the season.
