The two biggest storylines entering into this offseason were around Damian Lillard’s future with the Portland Trail Blazers and what the Philadelphia 76ers plan to do with Ben Simmons. While the 76ers are yet to show some clarity on their situation with Simmons, seems like Damian Lillard has made up his mind.
The 76ers haven’t had much luck coming to a deal with teams to trade Ben Simmons. Simmons was an absolute disaster for them last season and was blamed for their disappointing early exit too. Now that it was high time to ship him off, Philly has been making some unreasonable demands. Ever since their reported talks with the Golden State Warriors fell through, getting a decent package has been a struggle.

And even though the Toronto Raptors and Minnesota Timberwolves have shown keen interest in the point guard, nothing has appealed to Philly. In fact, they haven’t learnt their lesson yet and are continuing to keep their price high. Yet, everything points towards Ben leaving Philly and now a new angle has been roped in that involves Blazers’ Damian Lillard.

As per The Athletic, the Sixers are eyeing Lillard. However, “The Trail Blazers have fully focused on continuing to build around Lillard. As of now, Lillard is continuing to evaluate the Trail Blazers’ present and future and is slated to begin training camp with the organization.” In this way, the 76ers are stuck. What would be better? to go ahead with trading Simmons? Or wait for Dame to get available?

Nothing is certain in the NBA, especially trade talks. Today the news is that Lillard wants to stay and tomorrow he could be ready to wear another jersey. But based on this information, if Dame stays, the Blazers remain title contenders.
Lillard has expressed that he plans on sticking around, at least for now. But getting tired of being the sole leader in a team with no championship in sight, often causes the player to resent the franchise. Look what happened with James Harden.
