The Los Angeles Lakers legend Kareem Abdul-Jabbar is mainly on the news. His take on various worldly topics and criticism of the current players is quite talked about in the NBA fandom. Former players have spoken on the Lakers’ legend’s comments on various players. John Salley is the latest one. The 19-time All-Star was criticized by Salley recently while discussing his criticism of Kyrie Irving.

The former Detroit Pistons Star criticized Abdul-Jabbar’s comments on Kyrie Irving and LeBron James. Salley was critical of the approach of the Hall of Famer to address these situations.

John Salley considers the comments by Kareem on Kyrie Irving and LeBron James as “out of bounds”

The former Detroit Pistons star came on Shannon Sharpe’s podcast to talk about the NBA and the 2022-23 season. The conversation ranged from predictions for the most dominant player of the season to Lebron James’ all-time scoring record.

Sharpe mentioned Abdul-Jabbar’s comments on the NBA superstars and asked what Salley thought about it.

It was 100% out of bounds,” the former Detroit Pistons star mentioned. He further went on to add “, especially on Kyrie and so we could speak on it, I think this was the reason, I think somebody along with him is saying to him ‘If you wanna get things going and become relevant and be able to garner money where they bring you in and.. You gotta say something that is asinine’ ” 

The four-time NBA champion went on to explain that Abdul-Jabbar’s slander on the school system and how it failed Kyrie Irving also implied that the Lakers’ legend’s education was useless as well.

Sharpe also hit back at Salley and mentioned a few other instances where Irving’s words were not misconstrued. Salley replied “Social media has destroyed everything” implying that there are embers everywhere and everything will go up in flames even if you don’t try hard enough.

Abdul-Jabbar’s record set to be broken

By now it is not news that LeBron James will soon break the record of an all-time great. And it will be huge as the record is still set for 40 years. Shannon Sharpe threw a dart in the dark, mentioning how Abdul-Jabbar’s comments on James are increasing as he’s getting closer to the record. Salley reminded Sharpe of how it is a normal feeling to have.

Meanwhile, the 19-time All-Star had nothing but praises for James when he said how the 37-year-old has “earned it” and “worked hard for it”
