Former MVP Russell Westbrook had a poor season with the LA Lakers. While the fans expected him to hit the ground running, he faltered and struggled throughout the season. On the back of it, the Lakers failed to secure a playoff spot and didn’t even get the chance to play in the play-in tournament.

The Lakers fired head coach Frank Vogel after the final game of the season. So big changes were expected from the Lakers front office in the offseason. The fans expected some changes to the roster. Most fans wanted Westbrook to be traded away.
While the Lakers are still in search of a head coach, they haven’t made any changes so far. But the fans are disappointed after reports came out stating that the Lakers might keep Westbrook for next season. The reason is that the Lakers do not want to use a first-round pick with Russell.
Will the Lakers trade Russell Westbrook?
In terms of scoring, Russell Westbrook had his worst season ever in 12 years. He averaged less in only his first two years in the NBA. So you can understand the frustration of the “Lakers Nation”. The Lakers’ alleged decision to not use a first-round pick with Russell has angered a lot of fans.
Because not many teams would be interested, which would make Westbrook stay in Los Angeles for another season. And the fans are showing their disapproval of this decision by the Lakers front office.

It’s truly incredible how you can watch that season and just think let’s run it back with Westbrook. Truly insanity. Worst front office in basketball. Clean house

But Russell Westbrook has always been a bit inconsistent with his scoring. In the 2014-15 season, he averaged 28.1 points per game and then averaged 23.5 points per game in the 2015-16 season. Then he erupted for 31.6 points per game in the 2016-17 season and won the NBA MVP award.
Westbrook then was again inconsistent over the next few years. While his MVP days are behind him, he can definitely make any team better and is still a superstar. His ability to pass the ball and run the fastbreak is second to none. Also, he showed flashes of brilliance now and then.

So it might not be such a bad idea to keep Westbrook and give him another chance. But there will be concerns about his frame of mind to play with fellow superstars LeBron James and Anthony Davis.

Especially after some of the comments made by Russell during his 2021-22 Lakers exit interview. After a torrid 2021-22 season, the last thing the Lakers would want is a clash of superstar egos.
