The Minnesota Timberwolves are that one team of the Western Conference who might not have the greatest record but are still keeping fans impressed with the way their trio is performing. Especially the way Anthony Edwards has been playing. In fact, a lot of people were surprised that he didn’t win Rookie of the Year in 2020. But it seems like he always had eyes on the bigger price and is making his other competitors Kevin Durant and Stephen Curry, know about it as well.

Anthony Edwards issues subtle warning to Kevin Durant and Stephen Curry

Edwards entered the league as the Minnesota Timberwolves overall number one pick in the 2020 NBA Draft. And he hardly took any time establishing himself as a youngster who’s one of a kind. However, winning the Rookie of the Year did not pan out for him.

Despite surpassing all the other rookies last season, he lost to LaMelo Ball. It obviously had a lot to do with how the team as a whole ended but it never affected him that much either. But what he did make clear was that his aim was to achieve the MVP award instead. “I’m trying to be MVP. I’m not really worried about Rookie of the Year,” he stated.

As of now, the 2021-22 MVP race is quite an interesting one, and as competitive as well. Kevin Durant is leading the race, after which there is Stephen Curry, Nikola Jokic, Paul George, and DeMar DeRozan. So, Anthony Edwards’ statement is somewhat of a warning to the rest of these NBA stars out there.

There aren’t many NBA players who have been able to win this prestigious award in their sophomore year. If Edwards wants to win regular-season MVP, he has to put up performances as brilliant as his competitors KD and Steph.

So far, his most brilliant performance has been the one against the Warriors and Steph, in which he finished with 48 points. But it takes a much longer time to bring that level of consistency in as many games as possible, only then can he think about beating them.

It’s near impossible for him to be crowned with this title this season, but there is no doubt that he can surely become a viable candidate for it in the future.
