A cloud of darkness glides past the NBA after the recent Kyrie Irving controversy. The Brooklyn Nets guard once again became the face of trouble. The seven-time All-Star recently used his social media to promote an antisemitic movie. Likewise, many expected a heartfelt apology. However, commissioner Adam Silver and others weren’t satisfied with his response. Helpless with the punishment that comes, an NBA expert feels the NBPA should make a statement on the matter.

The National Basketball Players Association is the labor union for NBA players. Protecting the rights of the stars and dealing with grievances, the NBPA takes care of it all. Over half a century ago, the NBA had no arrangements for players’ health plans, pensions plans, and more. That would change in 1964. Bob Cousy, Oscar Robertson, and many other All-Stars threatened not to be a part of the first televised All-Star game. Since then, a positive change has been evident in the direction of players.

With the recent Kyrie Irving saga, the NBPA is yet to release any statement. And Jason Whitlock called them out for their negligence.

LeBron James and NBPA under fire over Kyrie Irving drama

Irving has been fighting a lone battle to defend his stance. His actions created a major uproar. However, the Nets guard has had no backing to his own words and sentiments so far. His apology was deemed unsatisfactory by Adam Silver. In addition, the Brooklyn Nets suspended him till he can meet the right criteria. In these times, Whitlock was disappointed to not see the NBPA step up. With a motto to protect the players, they are yet to come out with anything about KAI.

Whitlock took to Twitter to express his dissatisfaction with the NBPA’s approach. Notably, he called out the organization’s former president Chris Paul as well as Irving’s former teammate, LeBron James. He said: I repeat the NBPA has made no statement in support of union member Kyrie Irving. This is beyond negligent. This union is a joke. These Betas elected Skinny Stacey Abrams to lead them. She’s lining her pockets, building a resume off the backs of these betas.”

It is perhaps surprising to not see any statement from the player’s association since Kyrie Irving is one of the reigning vice presidents as well. KAI explained he never meant to hurt any community with his actions, but the apology has seemingly fallen on deaf ears so far.
