Polarizing WNBA star Brittney Griner has spent more than 200 days in a Russian prison. Moreover, there are no major updates regarding her chances of coming back home to the United States of America.
After officials arrested her on charges of carrying illegal substances in her luggage, she has been the center of numerous debates across the world. While some feel she should serve her time for breaking rules in Russia, other sympathize with the plight of the Phoenix Mercury star.

Eminent Washington Post journalist Jason Rezaian faced a similar situation to that of Griner while in Iran. He commented on the 31-year old hooper’s situation and touched upon some important issues surrounding her situation.
According to Rezaian, her supporters should come out loudly and openly to support her during such tough times. Moreover, he revealed that he doubts that she will get help anytime soon.
“The truth is that when governments do this,” Rezaian said, “they’re not in a hurry to resolve the situation.” The Washington Post journalist spent a whopping 500 days in prison in Iran after getting convicted of espionage.
What is the latest update surrounding Brittney Griner?
Following her arrest in February, officials of both countries have been trying to find a solution for Brittney Griner. One of the biggest reports suggested that the Government is planning a prisoner swap to bring BG back home.
While the United States would receive Griner and former US Marine Paul Whelan, Russia would receive notorious arms dealer Viktor Bout in return.
Although officials confirmed that they had held talks to resolve the Brittney Griner situation, a concrete solution is yet to be reached. Recently, President Joe Biden met with the families of both the prisoners reportedly involved in the prisoner swap.
According to a press statement released, the meeting was held to ‘reiterate his continued commitment to working through all available avenues to bring Brittney and Paul home safely.’

Moreover, Brittney’s wife, Cherelle, posted a photo with Biden on her Instagram. After her sentencing in a Russian court, the White House released an official statement in support of the WNBA star.
