Dallas Mavericks fans celebrated hearing the news about Kyrie Irving. Pairing up with Luka Doncic they arguably make for one of the most exciting tandems in the NBA. However, even before the duo could take flight, rumors of a potential break up are flooding in. The reason behind them is the ongoing friction between LeBron James and Anthony Davis. According to an NBA insider, the Mavs might take advantage of the reported rift to lure The Brow into the city.

It all started when LeBron James broke the all-time scoring record. The entire arena and teammates rose in pure joy as the King took his rightful crown. However, one man remained glued to his seat. It was none other than Anthony Davis. Likewise, the NBA world was taken aback. Davis is arguably one of James’ closest friends off the court. In addition, as teammates, the natural reaction arguably should have been the eight-time All-Star having a smile on his face.

In a later press conference, Davis blamed his mood on the losing situation of the Los Angeles Lakers. However, for a man desperate to win, his performances might not be doing justice. Speaking on the partnership between Jame and Davis, Colin Cowherd revealed a shocking truth. According to him, the 38-year-old is unhappy with his right-hand man. In addition, the FOX reporter also got tipped about the Mavericks potentially looking to team up AD with Luka Doncic.

Friction between LeBron James and Anthony Davis beneficial for Luka Doncic?

Since his viral moment, Davis has arguably looked unmotivated to get the job done. In his last five games, the 29-year-old is averaging merely 19.2 points and 14 rebounds per game. As the younger superstar, the Brow was supposed to take pressure off LeBron James. However, his health compiled with the recent slump has put the load on King James’ shoulders. While the 19-time All-Star has been sensational, he is arguably overproducing for someone who is 38. And recently, he missed three games after an ankle injury that could bother him for the entire season.

Cowherd believes the King’s team is furious with Ham for playing him so many minutes. In addition, there is a feeling that they no longer can depend on Anthony Davis which has further frustrated the Lakers forward. Taking the entire story into account, the FOX reporter doesn’t seem Davis’ slump is a mere coincidence.

While talking on The Herd, the popular NBA personality believes Davis going into a ‘funk’ is somehow linked with the Dallas Mavericks making a push for him. The series of events has left Dallas and Doncic in utter disbelief at the thought of losing Kyrie Irving after just one season.

Anthony Davis remains under contract with the Lakers until 2025. However, he has the option to terminate his contract in the next season. On the other hand, KAI, who was long linked with the Lakers will be an unrestricted free agent next season. The Maverick’s pursuit for AD makes sense due to their struggles on the defensive end. While the 29-year-old is injury prone when healthy there aren’t many who can challenge him at the rim. Moreover, besides a general like Doncic, AD’s game will arguably flow much easier.

However, for the Lakers to ever accept such a trade, the Mavericks will most probably have to include Irving. The most likely scenario might be the 2011 champions deciding after this season. They will have the option to either sign Irving to an extension and keep their current tandem alive. Or they can swap the former Brooklyn Nets guard for AD and pair him with Doncic.
