The Brooklyn Nets have been feeling the strain even before the regular season commenced. Their players have had to endure harsh criticism and their performances so far have left several gaping holes in the eyes of fans and the media. From Ben Simmons; who has been hesitant to shoot, to Kyrie Irving’s controversial comments, to the team’s overall poor defense, the Nets have not been in a great place. Interestingly, NBA legend Shaquille O’Neal believes that it was evident from the beginning.

Shaquille O’Neal discussed this with his ‘NBA on TNT’ crew on Tuesday night regarding the team. “They were dysfunctional from the start”, Shaq said. He added that for a team to be able to win, they had to be functional.

His comments were after the breaking news of Steve Nash’s sudden departure from the Brooklyn Nets as head coach. Many believed that the cracks within the team would have compelled Nash to part with the NBA team.

Furthermore, Shaq brought attention to their unstable history.

Kevin Durant, Kyrie Irving, and James Harden could have been a winning trio. They would have hoped for the same chemistry after Ben Simmons replaced Harden.

Shaq said that he always believed that coaches were for “moral support”. According to Shaq, the onus was on the top two or three players within the team, to show leadership and accountability. “The question is, who is gonna come in, who is gonna have the ability to keep them in line, and is this gonna turn them around. I don’t think it is,” the Big Aristotle concluded.

He also criticized a few of the players within the Brooklyn Nets team, without naming them. Shaquille O’Neal said that two players refused to play together and one player was not in his best form. Additionally, they had other problems they have to deal with. He reiterated that the team was not going to be “right for a while”.

Kevin Durant responded?recently to Nash’s departure and said he was in shock. He said that he loved working with Nash. His statement came as quite a contradiction to just three months ago, when he demanded that Steve Nash be let go by the franchise.

Even while serving under his tenure, Kyrie Irving told in a podcast, that there was no real head coach.
