NBA Hall of Famer Dennis Rodman didn’t have the ideal childhood growing up in Dallas. In fact, his father had abandoned his mother and a three-year-old Rodman which really left a profound impact on his family. Rodman’s mother raised her three children alone while Philander Rodman, Dennis’ father, was reportedly leading a new life in the Philippines. Interestingly, Philander Rodman wasn’t the ideal husband as he apparently had 16 wives!
During an interview with djvlad on YouTube, the Chicago Bulls legend opened up on his troubled childhood. When asked whether he ever met any of his half brothers or sisters, the five-time NBA champion had an eye-opening response.

Philander Rodman didn’t know how great his son would become when he left his mother and his newborn to fend for themselves. After years of struggling and hustling, Rodman made it to the NBA, and the rest is history.
Naturally, all the media attention urged some of his half-brothers and sisters to approach the former NBA champion. However, he was well aware of all their ulterior motives.
It seems they all wanted money. Rodman revealed this himself during the interview when asked whether he has ever met any of his half-siblings.
Rodman said, “I met a couple because you know what they wanted. They wanted money. He [Rodman’s father] got these women coming to ask me, do you know that this is your brother?”
Although the Bulls legend isn’t exactly aware of the number of half-siblings he has, the 8 times All-Defensive star has a rough idea. It is 29! Moreover, it seems Philander Rodman had 16 wives!
Rodman’s father made a lot of money through his name
Dennis Rodman and his father naturally had a very sour relationship. However, Philander Rodman apparently made a lot of money owing to his son’s immense popularity.

According to some reports, he charged $10,000 for an interview and would never speak without his manager! Philander also had exclusive invitations and had also authored a book. Despite all his earnings, Rodman’s father once honestly answered that all that money belonged to his Hall of Famer son.
