It’s been a rocky road for Los Angeles Lakers before the start of the new season. The Lakers lost four of their five pre-season games, with one game remaining. Not only that, but the team’s shortcomings from last season seem to be haunting them this season as well. One of those often singled out last year was Russell Westbrook. The nine-time All-Star had a tough start to life in his hometown with the Lakers.

There were various takeaways from the team’s pre-season loss against the Minnesota Timberwolves, but one thing that was fairly noticeable is the beef between Patrick Beverley and Russell Westbrook. There were countless occasions on the court that demonstrated that the feud between the two may seemingly be far from finished.

Fans intervene to defend Russell Westbrook after a video from the game goes viral

PatBev attempted to assemble the squad for a huddle during the game between the Minnesota Timberwolves and the Los Angeles Lakers in the third quarter. LeBron James and Anthony Davis joined but the one noticeable name that didn’t join was Westbrook. And even before the game was over the video of the huddle went viral.

In an interview, when asked about his take on the huddle incident, he said, “I’ve been in the league for years, same ritual since I been in the league, they cut the video.” Westbrook further commented on another video, saying: “I was actually talking to the coaches and they cut that video in half as well.”?

Many fans however came to Westbrook’s aid and defended him, accusing some of overanalyzing and trying to find something out of nothing. Here are some of the reactions from NBA Twitter:

It must have been encouraging to Westbrook to see fans banding together in his defense against the viral huddle video. After last season’s disappointment, the Lakers will undoubtedly be determined to make things right this season.
