NBA fans were in for a surprise as the Los Angeles Lakers, the 7th seed in the West, advanced to the Western Conference Finals, eliminating the defending champions, the Golden State Warriors. Their current opponent is the top-seeded Denver Nuggets, who narrowly won Game 1 at home. Despite the Nuggets leading the series, the media and fans couldn’t stop talking about the Lakers making a comeback. However, the Nuggets found motivation in this and managed to secure a victory in Game 2.
The Lakers’ successful strategy to contain the Nuggets’ centerpiece Nikola Jokic, was overshadowed by the Colorado side’s determination to power through. Dubs star Draymond Green recently discussed his thoughts on Game 2 in his podcast.

Draymond Green, the 2017 Defensive Player of the Year, shared valuable insights on his podcast, the Draymond Green Show. He discussed Nuggets coach Michael Malone’s perspective after game 1.
Despite the Nuggets winning game 1, Malone felt that the focus was more on the Lakers as if the Nuggets had already lost the series. Green also revealed the Nuggets’ mindset going into game 2. As a four-time NBA Champion, Green believed that the Lakers’ media prominence prevented the Nuggets from feeling relaxed in game 2. The Lakers dominated for three quarters, but the Nuggets took control in the fourth and secured a victory.
Green praised LeBron James and the Lakers’ efforts in defending Nikola Jokic. “They did not give Joker a steady diet of anything”. Green emphasized the Lakers’ defense on Jokic. “They gave him different looks. At some point of time, Bron was fronting with AD on the backside. And at times AD was guarding straight up. At times they send a double team. They did a bunch of different things,” added Green.
The Denver Nuggets take a 2-0 lead in the series
The second game between the Lakers and the Nuggets was highly competitive. The Lakers placed significant emphasis on defending the Nuggets’ star player, Nikola Jokic, who had an outstanding performance in game 1 with 34 points, 21 rebounds, and 14 assists. However, the Lakers managed to limit Jokic to only 23 points. Despite this, the Nuggets’ point guard, Jamal Murray, had a remarkable fourth quarter, scoring 20 points and leading his team to victory against LeBron James and the Lakers.
LeBron James and Austin Reaves were the leading scorers for the Lakers, each contributing 22 points, supported by Rui Hachimura’s 21 points. Unfortunately, their efforts were not enough to secure a win. The Lakers will now look to even the series when they play at home.
