Social media has a lot of benefits. But, we cannot ignore its negative influence. While you see heartwarming stories of how people came together to support a random cafe, you also see toxicity. When you’re a celebrity with last names as famous as Marcus Jordan and Larsa Pippen, the attention is even higher. And, with the attention, comes the negativity. So, it’s no surprise that the son of Michael Jordan and the ex-wife of Scottie Pippen receive major fan backlash. After seeing so many players, from Kevin Love to DeMar DeRozan, reveal their struggles with mental health because of the comments online, Larsa and Marcus’ take on the matter was empowering.

As the second episode of their podcast reached the airwaves, the two talked about the impact of social media. After Marcus’ confession about anonymity last time around, some more honest conversation was definitely on our way.

The conversation started with Larsa mentioning how important confidence is in today’s world. “I think it’s important to be confident because the world is so harsh.” Further, she explained how negative the comments on social media really are. “When I read… The negative comments… I’m like, ‘These people are so mean.'”

She explained her thoughts on how their confidence has helped the two of them. “If I wasn’t as confident as I am if you weren’t as confident as you are… It would really affect you.” She continued, stating how people didn’t really care about the consequences of their words. “They don’t think about how hurtful some of these things are.”

She explained how sometimes it can feel like celebrities are ready for scrutiny when they’re not. “You wanna be out there doing xy and z, but you’re not ready for all the scrutiny.” She reiterated her earlier point of their confidence giving them an edge. “We’re both blessed cause we have that confidence.”

Moving along, she explained the mentality that has made them capable of dealing with the negativity. “We have that,’ I don’t care what you think, I’m gonna live my best life…Life is so good that I don’t care. I’m sorry you feel so bad that you want to talk about me.”

With the added attention, comes the added criticism. In a feisty first episode that included name-calling Scottie Pippen, Marcus went into detail about how he was conscious of his identity.

The two were discussing Marcus’ appearance on the show, Real Housewives of Miami. Larsa revealed, “In the beginning, I feel like you didn’t really love like you never wanted to be on the show”. Marcus immediately responded in the affirmative.

Later, Marcus explained his reasons for preferring a less bold approach. “I think my upbringing and my history…We’re very private people and I think…I prefer my anonymity.” With a lifetime of being Michael Jordan’s son, constant attention can get exhausting.
