LeBron James said he would be the first in line to own the team from Las Vegas if the league ever chose to expand. He said, “I would love to bring a team here at some point. That would be amazing… So, I want the team here, Adam. Thank you“.
James has also not shied away from repeating his wish on other public forums as well. On an episode of ‘The Shop: Uninterrupted‘, LeBron said, “I want a team in Vegas“.
The NBA expansion trajectory
At the time, Adam Silver denied discussions regarding the league’s expansion. However, he did confirm that the league “invariably will expand“. Furthermore, Silver also noted that the two essential locations for such a discussion would be Seattle and Las Vegas.
“Those are wonderful markets“, the commissioner said. He asserted that they already have a WNBA team in Seattle at the moment and that Las Vegas has proved itself to be a credible and profitable sports market.
LeBron James seemingly agreed with this statement, when he said that Las Vegas has the “best fanbase in the world“.

Compliance with the ownership regulations would require James to no longer be on the active roster. ESPN noted that “He also would need to link up with an ownership group to purchase a team, despite having a net worth north of $1 billion…”
This could be where Fenway Sports Group will come in handy.
