Being the son of NBA legend Michael Jordan might have its perks but it also has its own set of problems. Jeffrey Jordan grew up watching his dad being idolized by the world. Being the son of such an influential athlete only furthered Jeffrey’s dream of becoming like his father. While junior Jordan was good at the sport, he couldn’t be considered one of the best.
In a 2005 interview with CBS News, Michael Jordan talked about a conversation he had with his son. The 14x NBA All-Star said that he had made it clear to Jeffrey that being MJ’s son didn’t entitle him to become his father’s basketball heir regardless of people calling Jeffrey ‘His Majesty’.
“My oldest thinks he should be the next Michael Jordan just by birthright. And to try to talk him out of it, my wife and I are driving ourselves nuts to say, ‘Hey kid, just have a good time’. There’s only one Michael Jordan,” MJ told CBS.
It was clearly indicated what Jordan meant was that Jeffrey didn’t need to feel pressurized to become an NBA player just because his father was one. However, Jordan being himself, even his pep talk came off as trash talk.
