The Brooklyn Nets have officially decided to suspend Kyrie Irving for a minimum of five games. Irving’s controversial social media post recently caused a big uproar among NBA circles. Many former NBA stars such as Charles Barkley, Shaquille O’Neal, and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar have called out the 30-year-old guard for his actions. Los Angeles Lakers legend Kareem Abdul-Jabbar even called him a “comical buffoon”. Now, Abdul-Jabbar has criticized Irving for some of his other controversies in the past year.

Kyrie Irving has been among the biggest headline makers in the NBA circles in the past year over his actions and words, many of which have landed him in controversies. The Nets are struggling this season and to double down on that, the seven-time All-Star will miss at least the next five games.

Kareem Abdul-Jabbar is among the ones who have been calling out Kyrie for his recent social media activity. The Los Angeles Lakers legend believes that Kyrie has failed to live up to everyone’s expectations as a role model and has instead misguided people. Now, Abdul-Jabbar has doubled down on his earlier statement and called out Kyrie’s “lack of awareness”.

Kareem Abdul-Jabbar criticizes Kyrie Irving over his latest social media controversy

The 75-year-old NBA great is very outspoken and has always stood up for what he believes is right. He has been in the news, earlier this year, for calling Kyrie a “comical buffoon“.

Here is Abdul-Jabbar’s response to the Kyrie Irving controversy:

“Irving has been defiant about his postings,” he wrote on his Substack.

He further said, “You can read his long, rambling, at times contradictory defense here. Mostly he reveals his lack of awareness of how history works. It’s not an all-you-can-eat buffet from which you can pluck just the dishes you like without any understanding of the context.”

“Honestly, there’s little hope that he will change because he’s insulated by fame and money and surrounded by yes-people. There is no motivation to learn how to distinguish propaganda from facts. All that’s left is for the world to decide how it should respond to him,” the six-time NBA champion concluded.

This is an unfortunate situation for the league and the Brooklyn Nets. Irving has previously been in the headlines for the wrong reasons, but the current situation only worsens things up. While the NBA Commissioner admitted that he was “disappointed” in Kyrie, the Nets reacted with a minimum five-game suspension.
