As fame grows, the value of NBA players is bound to shoot. Transitioning into superstars, players such as Stephen Curry and LeBron James earn multiple millions in just one season. Arguably, it takes hard work and the love of fans to climb that mountain. However, any small mistake can cause a huge impact.
As the game evolves, so do the rules. Back in the day, NBA players could almost go fist for fist and be penalized a small sum. However, in today’s game, players could face a hefty fine with suspensions. And that just goes for the players. In 2019, Golden State Warriors investor Marks Steven was fined $500,000 while serving a one-year ban for pushing Kyle Lowry. Hence, maintaining a clean image is a top priority for those in the league.

However, these fines are nothing when compared to what a former Washington Wizards player lost. Set for a massive $40 million deal, one single misread lost him over 60%.
Gilbert Arenas shares unfortunate story of Wizards player
Running with delight on his extension, a young Wizards player went out to celebrate. Hitting the club, he spotted a s** worker on the way. However, it was all just a ruse, and she was an undercover cop. Getting in trouble, the Wizards player’s night turned out to be probably his worst. Chatting with VladTV, former NBA All-Star Gilbert Arenas dived into the incident.
Agent Zero said: “She must have been bad. To pull over, I mean you are going to the club. Listen, we teased this man.” Arenas continued saying, “It was the funniest thing. You’re talking about young kids so stuff like that is the funniest. Like how do you get in trouble for that? I didn’t know you could even get in trouble for something like that.”

Just this one incident changed the entire look of his new contract. The Wizards players lost $25 million after being caught. While most teams stood by, Arenas decided to further troll the player. He went out and made number 80 jerseys with quotes from the incident. Team personnel then had it cut out for them as they had to check the jerseys every time to avoid the Wizards star going out with the wrong jersey on his back.
Losing almost 70% of his total purse, this incident is arguably one of the most expensive in NBA history.
