Following the Celtics’ disastrous loss, the Heat had exciting news waiting for them. Jimmy Butler received the MVP award for the Eastern Conference finals. Butler and Caleb Martin were in a tight race, and Butler won with five votes to Martin’s four. Butler became the Heat’s clear statistical leader throughout the series, routinely contributing to every important category. However, he lacked in rebounding. And with a game average of 24.7 points, 7.6 rebounds, 6.1 assists, and 2.6 steals, he had his game face on.
In a post-game interview conducted by Ernie Johnson, the host of ‘Inside the NBA,’ he bought up the bold claim that Jimmy Butler had made about the Heat last year. Butler, holding the Larry Bird trophy, responded to Johnson, filled with awe for his team.
Jimmy Butler had claimed that the Miami Heat will be back in the Eastern Conference Semifinals and that, “they’ll get it done.” And it seems like Jimmy Butler held on to his claim.
He said, “I have so much belief in myself and this group of guys. In the squad that, uh, coach Pat and Spo and everybody else put together. I see it every single day. I know how good of players that we have,?I know how good of a team we are,?and we made it happen.?
