Lately, there have been some players coming into the league who are considered unicorns. A must-have player with the first pick in the NBA draft. And the upcoming draft is nothing different. However, the player projected to go first overall seems to be Victor Wembanyama.

It looks like the league is already taking notice of the young French sensation. Listed at 7’4″, Wembanyama seems like he is truly a once-in-a-generation player. The 18-year-old is the presumed number-one pick of the 2023 NBA draft.

And NBA stars already have high regard for the player. Wembanyama has an eight-foot wingspan and is a knockdown shooter for his height. Giannis Antetokounmpo made a statement wherein he said, “We have never seen someone like that before. I think it’s a good challenge for everybody in the league. We gotta get ready for this kid.”

Antetokounmpo added that he “has a chance to be one of the best to ever play this game”. Big words coming from a former NBA champion and a two-time league MVP for a player who has yet to hit the NBA hardwood. And it seems as if Antetokounmpo isn’t the only player speaking highly of this future star.

Two-time NBA champion Kevin Durant also chimed in on Victor Wembanyama. Durant said, “The league’s really in trouble when he comes in.” And if Wembanyama continues to play the way he has so far, the league could really be in for some trouble.

The last big man who was hyped for his shooting and frame possibly was Latvian native Kristaps Porzingis. Porzingis was the fourth pick in the first round of the 2015 NBA draft.

Over the years, very few big men are touted as the best prospects for the number one draft pick. In the last decade, only three bigs were drafted out of the ten players to go as the number one pick.
