Getting full custody of his children was one of the happiest days for Dwyane Wade in 2016. It was when his children Zaire and Zion were granted permission to move from Miami to Chicago with their father. That same year, Wade left the Miami Heat after 13 years to join the Chicago Bulls.?

He received a two-year, $47.5 million offer from the Bulls as a result of this. Wade had to move in July due to the drafting process that year. In addition to relocating his family, he also had to relocate his two sons. His kids moved with him since he had gained sole physical custody.?

It seems like everything in his life is going so smoothly through social media. The relationship he had with his ex-wife Siohvaughn Funches and the full custody he was granted. However, it wasn’t the case that we usually see, as Dwyane Wade had to go through a long and difficult process in order to get custody of his children.

A few years ago, Wade shared his side of the story on the Oprah Winfrey Network. Telling the story of the best gift he received for Father’s Day over the years. Back then, Wade and his ex-wife weren’t getting along, so Wade filed for divorce in 2007. However, getting settled proved to be a long and difficult journey.?

During Oprah’s Next Chapter’, Wade discussed the transition from being a weekdays parent to having full custody of his children. It was during those difficult years that he shared some of the experiences that he was having as the divorce was finalized.?

“It was their weekend before Father’s Day to go back home to their mom’s place and which I encourage and I love and I’m excited for them when they go because they love their mom.? Wade was then unable to locate his kids or their mothers before Game 3 of that year’s NBA Finals. ?

As he shared this story, he mentioned saying: “I got worried you know I got nervous I got scared. And then after so many hours now the law enforcement has to get involved because you know I’m a dad and I’m worried I’m concerned I gotta find out where my kids at.”?

As he mentioned, it was a wonderful Father’s Day gift that his children were safe and sound. His ex-wife was charged with attempted child abduction, unlawful visitation interference, and resisting arrest after he found his kids. After a long struggle, it was finally resolved and the divorce was finalized.
