LeBron James has always carried the dream of being able to play with his sons in the NBA. His sons, Bronny and Bryce James could carry the torch of their father. However, can a new change alter the course for the James litter? If the change gets cemented, it would be the first time since 2005. The league has been reported to change its draft age from 19 to 18 years old. While another NBA All-Star is happy about it, LeBron James’ may not be.

In an interview with Graham Bensinger, NBA legend Dirk Nowitzki shared his thoughts about the league lowering the minimum age to 18. According to Nowitzki, this would bring in many players who would have otherwise played in different leagues.

He doesn’t agree with the current regulation. “That’s just silliness to me,” said Nowitzki who went on to elaborate on his case. He believed that if players were ready to join the league after high school, they should be given the opportunity to do so. Nowitzki continued by stating how most of them don’t even want to go to college.

Can LeBron James fulfill his dream?

Dirk Nowitzki added players are worried about getting hurt while playing college basketball. This could hamper their chances of getting drafted or even worse tarnish their dream of playing in the NBA. So he wants the league to open the gates for players straight from high school.

Bronny James who turned 18 years this year would have benefitted from this rule if they had passed it before. This rule change isn’t expected to be in effect until the 2024 NBA Draft. So, he would have already done one year of college basketball by then.

But, things may look up for Bryce James who would be graduating from high school in 2025. So if the rule change is made, Bryce could declare for the draft after graduating high school.

The rule change would certainly increase the chances of LeBron James playing alongside both of his sons if he can make sure his longevity sticks.

NBA Commissioner Adam Silver is interested to change the NBA Draft age minimum to 18 years. He also firmly believes that it would be in the best interests of the league. It has been a campaign that started in 2017, and this year has made a stronger push toward the goal.
