On Tuesday night, the Brooklyn Nets locked horns with the Phoenix Suns and Chris Paul-led-Suns came out victorious. A Nets rookie almost led them to victory but fell short of a few points. In light of his brilliant performance, NBA legend Shaquille O’Neal gave the said rookie a shoutout. Moreover, his performance made NBA fans forget about the not-so-promising performance of Ben Simmons.

The Nets rookie is none other than Cam Thomas. The 21-year-old stole the spotlight with his superb play last night, further eliciting Shaq and the fans’ attention.

In a recent episode of the ‘NBA on TNT’ Post Game breakdown, Shaq was quite impressed with Thomas and thus gave him a shoutout. During the show, the four-time champion said, “My favorite thing to do is watch movies and I always love watching the underdog movie. So this message is not for the superstar. This message is for the underdog. Listen, high school kids, AAU kids, you’re always going to be on a team with somebody’s better than you but if you get your opportunity, get your shine on.”

Shaq continued, “Nobody really talked about this kid. He hadn’t played in a while but I know he went to LSU. He’s getting his opportunity right now to get his shine on…If he gets the opportunity, he can play good stuff.” In other words, the now 50-year-old was seemingly impressed with the rising star and advised every youngster to follow in his footsteps.

Shaq also didn’t miss out on the opportunity to troll Ben Simmons in the process. “He’s playing with a guy that still doesn’t wanna shoot,” the Lakers legend added, calling Thomas the ‘number one option‘ in Brooklyn right now, in the absence of Kyrie Irving and Kevin Durant.

Thomas was certainly the best player for the Nets last night. The 21-year-old wrapped up the game with 43 points, five rebounds, and three assists. Interestingly, this was the rookie’s second straight game where he bagged 40+ points.
