

Controversial or not, WNBA star Brittney Griner is all over the news currently. However, this has been something that she has faced ever since her college days.
Playing for the Baylor college team, Griner made a name for herself thanks to her exploits both on and off the court. While she was getting praise from all around due to her play, her stance on certain issues and her sexuality brought in a lot of hate and backlash.

In fact, her own father was not very supportive of Brittney initially. Her father, Ray, was a US Army Veteran who had served the country in Vietnam.
During an interview, Griner revealed that her father eventually accepted Brittney for who she was after her success for the college team. Moreover, Ray texts Brittney’s girlfriend and also is very supportive of the WNBA star.

Talking in an interview, Ray accepted that he knows how Brittney feels now. “Brittney wants people to accept her for who she is. I get that now”, said Brittney Griner’s father.
Brittney Griner’s father initially did not support her
While everything might be cool between Brittney Griner and her father currently, it was not always like this. Initially, her father did not accept Griner for who she was.
Although her mother was always supportive of her, Griner’s father, a US Army veteran once rejected her very badly. He declared that he wasn’t “raising any lesbian“.
Basketball played a major role to persuade her parents to accept her. Griner was one of the best players for her college team and had a physicality like no other.

She led her college team to the NCAA title in 2012 among other accolades in college. Moreover, she has 3,283 points in four years and she also has records in blocks and dunks.
