On Tuesday, Steve Kerr in the pregame press conference did not talk about basketball since it was being held prior to the fourth game of the Western Conference finals between the Golden State Warriors and the Dallas Mavericks.
Rather than speaking about the upcoming game, Kerr spoke about the shooting at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas. Earlier, Warrior’s head coach had spoken out against gun violence in America and promoted gun control.

During his media address, Kerr was trembling and on the verge of tears, similar to his monologue. In response, the fans expressed their feelings via social media, and both fans and celebrities took to the Internet to share Kerr’s remarks. Lakers star LeBron James and singer Taylor Swift were among those who did it.

Filled with rage and grief, and so broken by the murders in Uvalde. By Buffalo, Laguna Woods and so many others. By the ways in which we, as a nation, have become conditioned to unfathomable and unbearable heartbreak. Steve’s words ring so true and cut so deep. https://t.co/Rb5uwSTxty

Kerr said, “I’m not going to talk about basketball. Nothing’s happened with our team in the last six hours. We’re going to start the same way tonight. Any basketball questions don’t matter.” Continuing on, he shared his perspective on the matter.

Furthermore, he mentioned how tired he became of hearing news such as this. His words were:
“When are we going to do something? I’m tired, I’m so tired of getting up here and offering condolences to the devastated families that are out there. I’m so tired. Excuse me. I’m sorry. I’m tired of the moments of silence. Enough!”
Malcolm Kerr, Kerr’s father, died in an incident while serving as president of the American University of Beirut in 1984. This isn’t the first time Kerr has spoken about this, as there have been many instances in which he has voiced his opinion.
