WNBA Brittney Griner has been fighting for herself since her teenage days. Being different is what got BG involved in several fights and brawls while growing up. She often found herself wrestling with guys on the playground or waiting for her turn to be screamed at outside the principal’s office. Her frustrations turned into anger and she formed a guard around herself so others could not see her pain. Brittney Griner once revealed a brutally honest truth about her frustrations as a teenager, making her wonder what would trigger her next.

The Phoenix Mercury center released her biographical memoir titled ‘In My Skin: My Life On and Off the Basketball Court’, in 2014. Brittney Griner talked about her struggles growing up, her journey of discovering her sexuality, the bullying she faced, and how she made it big to the WNBA.
In one of the chapters, Griner talked about a phase in her life when she acted like a ticking timebomb, ready to explode at anyone who messed with her.?

BG was subjected to a lot of bullying from other kids for being different. So, she resorted to fighting anyone who tried to tease or mock her. As a teenager, Griner felt that it was extremely important for her to be seen as a person no one could mess with. However, she resorted to the tough look on the outside to keep people from noticing her internal battles.??
Her harmless skirmishes with boys on playgrounds and lunchrooms turned into scuffling when BG got into middle school. Once, Griner had won the Punt, Pass, and Kick competition and she bragged about beating a boy as she flaunted her trophy in school. Eventually, her violent encounter with the boy landed her in the principal’s office.
?Brittney Griner shared that she was more nervous than anyone else during that phase. The 2014 WNBA champion said,?“But no one was more nervous than I was, because I was constantly on edge, wondering who was going to provoke me next.”

The eight-time WNBA All-Star also revealed that girls were often nervous around her. Griner’s female classmates felt odd either because they thought she looked like a boy or would steal their boyfriend. She was even sent to reform school for fighting with a girl who felt BG was after her boyfriend.
