The NBA off-season is in full swing with teams hoping to bolster their rosters before the new season tips off. The Los Angeles Lakers are one of those teams, looking to build upon the failures of the last campaign. The franchise has been attempting to acquire Kyrie Irving from the Brooklyn Nets through trade. They have not, however, been successful.
It is believed that if the Lakers had dropped their stance and were prepared to offer two first-round picks instead of just one, the deal would have been completed by now. However, according to The Athletic’s John Buha, they may be prepared to change their stance and offer two first-round picks.

The Brooklyn Nets have undergone a turbulent off-season. The organization is presently assessing its situation and deciding whether to trade its other megastar, Kevin Durant. A decision in that department would determine whether or not Irving would be moved.
It is understandable that the Los Angeles Lakers are hesitant to give up their future for one year of Irving. However, in the grand scheme of things, they badly need someone like the flashy point guard in the mix. They may be trying to leverage the Brooklyn Nets; however, when the time arrives, they will be the ones who’ll have to pull the trigger.
The Lakers are understandably wary to give away their future for a single season of Irving. In the grand scheme of things, though, they desperately need someone like the flamboyant point guard in the equation.

A trade for Kyrie Irving would reunite him with his long-lost comrade, LeBron James
If the Lakers are able to land Kyrie Irving, it would be considered a great move regardless of whether they give up two first-round picks for him. The franchise brought in Russell Westbrook last season; however, he wasn’t a seamless fit and was eventually thrown under the bus for the Lakers’ shortcomings last season.

Therefore, they have set their sights on Irving, who would not only make the squad more formidable offensively but would also reunite him with his old friend, LeBron James. Irving and James were teammates for three seasons with the Cleveland Cavaliers. While their relationship was said to be tainted at one point, the tandem took the franchise to three NBA Finals and captured an NBA championship in 2015-16.
